Cloth Swim Diapers

So you are ready to take your little one swimming. For the sake of the other swimmers it is important to consider what happens when your little one has to use the bathroom. If the youngster has not been potty trained yet you may be wondering about diapers in the pool. So what are your options? Well, first you'll need to make sure that you use a swim diaper. Second you have the option of a cloth swim diaper or a disposable swim diaper.

Cloth swim diapers are more economical than throwaway disposable swim diapers. Over time they will definitely save you money and can be a comfortable way to let your baby have fun in the pool and still protect the rest of the swimmers in the pool from accidents. Now some of you are saying, wouldn't disposable diapers be better?

So what is the purpose of swim diapers? Many think that they should be absorbent and keep urine from getting into the pool water, but this is not really the case. While disposable diapers are often more absorbent than cloth swim diapers they do not do any better of a job containing leaks than cloth diapers do. The main purpose of a swim diaper is to contain solids and a cloth swim diaper does this just as well as a disposable. The main difference between disposable swim diapers and regular disposable swim diapers is that the swim diapers are void of some of the chemicals in the regular diapers. This is important for maintenance of the pool as owners of the pool do not like the added chemicals released into the water from the diapers.

Cloth swim diapers are becoming more popular these days. Because of their increased popularity you can usually find places where you can purchase lots of different styles and prints. Many cloth swim diapers are thin enough that they can be worn under a regular swimsuit. Many cloth swim diapers are very cute and can also just be worn as a stand alone swimsuit.

Cloth swim diapers are also safer for your young child. One of the main problems of disposable diapers is that they often absorb large quantities of water. This can be dangerous for the youngster because it can weigh down the child and make it hard for them to stay buoyant. Now if your child is just a baby, you will probably be holding them the whole time anyway, so no problem. But if they are a toddler just walking, or a bit older doing some swimming but still in diapers, then a heavy diaper can sometimes be too much for their still wobbly legs or newly developed swimming skills.

Most cloth swim diapers are made from cotton but some will have a quick drying nylon outer shell. Most cost less than fifteen dollars and can be used the whole summer, while disposables have a one time use. Cloth swim diapers can just be tossed into the washing machine with the swimsuits and the towels after your trip to the pool to be washed and ready to go for the next pool outing.
